The 1989 4 Piece American Eagle Gold Proof Set revived images from the "Gilded Age" of American history, featuring Augustus St. Gaudens' Liberty design which first appeared in 1907. Each coin was struck and hand-inspected by the staff of the United States Mint. The set contained one each of the 1 -ounce, 1/2 -ounce, 1/4 -ounce and 1/10 -ounce denominations. The 1 -ounce version was produced at the West Point Mint, while the remaining coins from the set came from the Philadelphia Mint. The set came packaged in a deluxe blue, velvet-lined presentation case and shipped complete with a Certificate Of Authenticity from the United States Mint.
